The European Parliament has published its legislative resolution on the EU Due Diligence Regulation of 7 July 2010 on the Council position at first reading for adopting a regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council laying down the obligations of operators who place timber and timber products on the market.
It is expected that this text will also be ratified by the European Council and then be published in the Official Journal of the European Communities.
European Commission will now have to work out secondary legislation in order to implement the regulation. We understand that European timber and woodworking industries would be involved in this process as the Commission wants to ensure a workable system and regulation.
