Location

Ringing the changes for residential development

High specification London apartments are being given a more individual feel through flooring specifiers and suppliers working closely together.

Engineered wood flooring allows developers a greater choice in texture, colour and finish, picking up on nature’s own appeal in the grain and appearance of wood and adding a contemporary twist through technical processes and coatings. For the Berkeley Homes’ Roman House development, TTF Member The Solid Wood Flooring Company provided engineered Walnut and select Oak flooring for the apartments, with a fire-resisting white lacquered finish.

For the penthouses, a fuming process was used on the Oak boards to created a darkened effect in keeping with the interior. The penthouse engineered flooring was also manufactured at a 340mm width to assist the fit-out of the interiors. The Solid Wood Flooring Company has extensive experience in working with specifiers to achieve desired outcomes.

The solid wood top layer of engineered flooring has all the natural characteristics of wood in terms of grain pattern, the appearance of knot structures, colour variation, mineral highlights and even pin holes. The Solid Wood Flooring Company can then use a variety of processes to increase choice. Oak varieties can have their tannins changed to create white boards, or be carbonised to produce red to black shades. Fumed finishes range from light to dark; the longer the material remains in the fuming chamber the darker the colour and the more extreme the colour variation.
