BMBI Monthly Timber and Joinery Index slows, mirroring other indices
February 2019’s monthly BMBI data on timber and joinery products, the latest data available at the time of writing, stood at 112.2, some 4.6 points above February 2018. However this figure was down when compared to the average figure for the past six months which stood at over 118.
The next quarterly BMBI data is due to be released just before the Timber Forum on 23rd May. Find out more here.
This slight slowing of business is mirrored by other construction indices. The Construction Products Association downgraded its 2019 construction forecast from 2.3% to just 0.6% some time ago. IHS Markit/CIPS Q1 figures saw a fall in output labelled as a “sustained soft patch” blamed on Brexit uncertainties. Commenting on the figures, the FMB said: “…confidence amongst consumers and contractors continues to wobble”.
