The Wood Awards are looking for inspiring new joiners and furniture makers to enter the 2022 competition and showcase outstanding wood designs and craftsmanship.
The Wood Awards is the UK’s premier competition for excellence in architecture and product design in wood. For more than 50 years the Awards has recognised, encouraged and promoted outstanding wood design, craftsmanship and installation, and the call for entries for the 2022 competition is now open. Could you be a winner?
The Awards are open to anyone associated with a building or product that showcases wood design and has been completed within the last two years, provided you have permission from the owner. The competition is free to enter, and you can submit as many projects as you like.
The Awards are looking for entries that fit into two main categories: Furniture & Product; and Buildings. Any buildings submitted must be located in the UK, while any furniture, fitted furniture or other products must have been either designed or manufactured in the UK.
Previous winners of the Wood Awards have included prestigious buildings such as Magdalene College Library in Cambridge and the Welcome Building at RHS Garden Bridgewater, as well as some of the inspiring designs found in schools, pubs and private residential homes right across the country.
Once all the entries have been considered and a shortlist made, the Wood Awards’ independent judging panel visits all the shortlisted projects in person so that they can get a real sense of the architecture and design features involved in every project. All the Building entries will be judged during September and October 2022, with the Furniture entries being judged in late October.
All the shortlisted entries will then be put on display for six weeks at The Building Centre in London as part of the annual World of Wood exhibition. The winners will be announced at a prestigious Awards Ceremony in London in November, with all the winners and highly commended projects also receiving promotion and marketing opportunities through the Wood Awards competition. At the Awards ceremony, one of the shortlisted entries will also receive the ultimate accolade and be named the Gold Award winner.
Entries must be submitted by 1 July and there is no entry fee. There are no restrictions on the size or budget of a project, and the 2022 shortlist will be announced in September.
Major Sponsors of the Wood Awards 2022 include the American Hardwood Export Council, Timber Development UK, Binderholz, The Carpenters Company and American Softwoods.
