Deadlines, webinars, and Brexit

Deadlines, webinars, and Brexit

Many a deadline has been and gone for Brexit, and the ‘final day’ to sign an agreement has flown past half a dozen times in the past couple of months alone. However, it seems that likely this weekend may well and truly be the time we find out whether a trade agreement is signed.

No miraculous turnabouts should be expected from these talks, however, and, as we have said before, there is certainty that on 1 January 2021 the way the UK does business with the EU will change. In many ways, it will come to resemble how we do business with the rest of the world – with customs checks, due diligence, duty rates, tariffs, and the like (as can be explored on our Brexit Hub).

I will not go into these changes in detail again, except to remind all to please sign up to our Brexit webinars today (for members of the UK timber industry) and Wednesday (for EU suppliers), where we will seek to answer your questions as best we can.

On brighter notes, this week we hosted a well-received Temperate Hardwood Conference. My thanks to both the speakers and participants. So far the feedback has been really positive, and we will be looking to make both the slides and videos of the presentations available next week (along with the Tropical presentations).
