Issues with the Coniferous plywood quota system

ARTICLE · By Timber Trade Federation · 25 January 2021

TTF members attempting to make declarations on Friday were told that the new quota had reduced significantly and was flagged as critical, meaning that duty was required on deposit.

Clearly this was an error in the system as it would be physically impossible for sufficient qualifying material to have been correctly declared this month.

TTF have been working with HMRC to achieve a resolution, both for the quota tracking system and to remove the duty of deposit requirements within the customs system CHIEF. We have an updated balance figure for Friday which is 107,462m3 and understand members should be able to continue with declarations as normal from lunchtime today.

The quota tracking page within the UK trade tariff is still showing an incorrect balance but we hope this will be correctly soon.

We would remind all members that Coniferous Plywood from the following countries should be declared under individual trade agreements and NOT against the quota: Europe, Canada, Chile, South Africa.
