Draisci Studio designed a creative solution to the location of a major drainage culvert and pipework in the garden of this London property. Adding flowing yet incremental spaces and floating a kitchen nook out over the culvert helped protect privacy from overlooking buildings. Timber being a lighter material than concrete also made its use more appropriate in the circumstances.
In discussion with TTF member Brooks Brothers, a profile of Siberian Larch, suitable for both cladding and decking, was chosen. No treatment was needed for this slow-growing, more dense species. The timber creates a seamless flow between the vertical and horizontal spaces, giving a feeling of continuity between inside and outside. Timber was also easier for contractors Qprojects to adapt on-site.
