The Timber Trade Federation has published its new Statistical Bulletin for February 2017 including Softwood, Hardwood & Plywood Price Development. These data – here – show that since the EU referendum up to November 2016 prices have consistently risen due to the weakening of the Pound.
The statistics – downloadable here for TTF Members – show that overall imports in in the first 11 months of 2016 were 500,000m3 higher than the same period in 2015.
Growth in the volumes of Softwood have been led by growth in supply from Germany, Latvia and Russia. Softwood import volumes rose 5.4% in the 11 months up to November 2016.
Estonia, Cameroon, Malaysia and the USA all experienced significant increases in Hardwood export volume in 2016 with France, Germany and Italy experiencing downturns.
There have been minor reductions in Plywood volume being imported from China, however this has been more than offset by increases in volume from Indonesia, Malaysia and Russia.
