UPM develops bio-based bonding for plywood

WISA BioBond is a new bio-based bonding solution developed by UPM, intended for use in products such as its plywoods.  UPM BioBond is made from lignin, a by-product of forest-based industry, and the company is using it as a replacement to fossil fuel-based phenol.

The technology has been tested and confirmed to meet technical performance requirements for industrial plywood.  The roll-out of BioBond is ongoing and the technology is already in use at some UPM mills producing WISA Plywood.  The development reinforces the company’s philosophy of resource efficiency as part of a sustainable and circular economy.
